Description of the Flag

The flag is horizontally divided in light blue over white, with a coat-of-arms-like emblem centered thereon above the lettering "Partido Povo Timor" — the party’s name without the smaller words (thus reading "Party People Timor") in yellow capitals edged black. The emblem, read as a coat of arms, is: party per fess argent and argent (?!), a roundel or (windmill stone? punctured coin?) and a pair of crossed daggers proper, inescutcheon “in heart” with Portugal modern. Crest: kaibauk crown, red scroll like wreath and mantling. For supporters, two purple roosters, motto "Timor-Dili" on a golden scroll.

The official 2007 elections leaflet [t9l07], shows the same flag as in 2001, but at the official Parliament website (image) the flag lacks the yellow lettering on the white panel.

Presentation of P.P.T.

In the 2007.06.02 elections P.P.T. run in a coalition with KOTA, labeled Aliansa Demokratika (Democratic Alliance), which got 13 294 votes (3,20%), receiving 2 of 65 seats in the parliament, one for P.P.T. and one for KOTA.
J. Patrick Fischer, 09 September 2007

P.P.T. got 7322 votes in the 2001.08.30 elections (2,01%), receiving 2 of 88 seats in the parliament, where it is one of the small parties. The symbol and flag of this party are quite similar to a previously existing entity M.N.L.I.T.D. (Movimento Nacional para a Libertação e Independência de Timor-Díli), reported in Vlaggen 33 (1985): 482-483 [vlg].

Image with unknown colors in gray, taken from Vlaggen 33 (1985) [vlg]: 482-483. "Timor-Dili" seems to be a 1975 aborted attempt to create an alternative to "Portuguese Timor", following the example of Guinea-Bissau (vs. Guinea-Konakry — here would be vs. Timor-Kupang). As we know, the form "East Timor" caught on instead.
